Know about Astaranga Beach

In Odia language Astaranga is a combination of 2 words. Consequently Asta and Ranga where Asta means Sun Set and Ranga means Color. So the sunset at Astaranga beach is always splendid and colorful.

Astarang, is a coastal village, with lots of history in freedom fighting of India, it was an epicenter of salt satygraha. It is situated just 27 Kilometers from Konark and 7 Kilometers from Kakatpur. Astarang literary means a ‘colorful sun set’ and is famous for its picnic spots, scenic beauty, lush green surroundings, fish produces, betel leaves, and for boating in river Devi. Few of these places are well known locally, such as Devi muhana (the estuary of river Devi), Nuagarh jethi, Jahania Pir, etc. The place is a hidden treasure for the nature loving tourists. Devi river mouth is one of the two Olive ridley turtle mass nesting sites in Odisha where thousands of turtle arrive for laying eggs; the phenomenon described as ‘arribada’.

Astaranga is also a famous fishing center of puri. The small market sits here on the beach where the fishermen sell out their catches to the waiting vendors. The crowd in the early morning consisting of the boatmen returning with their nets from the sea and the intending buyers give a perfect picture of man’s co-existence with nature.

The best time to visit Astaranga beach is during October to June. Well connected and easily accessible by motorable roads and railway tracks. The nearest rail head is Bhubaneswar. The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik Airport at Bhubaneswar.

By Air: Firstly you can reach to Astaranga by Bus or Taxi from Biju patnaik International airport, Bhubaneswar. Its around 75KM from the Airport.

By Rail: Secondly the nearest Rail stations are Bhubaneswar and Puri.

By Bus: Bus is the cheapest way to reach Astaranga. Well connected bus route from Bhubaneswar 75KM, Puri 60KM, Konark 44KM and Kakatapur 7KM. The Beach is 7KM away from Astaranga Town and you need to hire a Auto Rickshaw to the beach.
