The name Konark, literally means the Sun, and refers to the famous 13th century Sun Temple. The town is located near the Bay of Bengal and is known for its various ancient temples and monuments. Konark Sun Temple
KONARAK SUN TEMPLE (300 meters from Surya Inn) Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha, India. It is believed that the temple was built by king Narasimhadeva I of Eastern Ganga Dynasty around 1250 CE. The temple is in the shape of a gigantic chariot elaborately carved stone wheels, pillars and walls. A major part of the structure is now in ruins. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also featured on NDTV’s list of Seven Wonders of India and Times of India’s list of Seven Wonders of India.
ASI Museum
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM (400 meters from Surya Inn) The Museum was established in 1968, with the purpose of housing the archeological excavations and the fallen sculptures from the Sun temple. The gallery contains a number of antiquities which are displayed in 4 different galleries. The antiquities include various sculptures, paintings, manuscripts and various fallen of parts from the Konark Sun Temple.

Chandrabhaga Beach
CHANDRABHAGA BEACH (4km from Surya Inn) Chandrabhaga is situated 3 Kms east of the famous Sun temple of Konark and 30 Kms from Puri. Until recent years Chandrabhaga was considered a place of natural cure for lepers. Mythological ‘Shamba’ (Krishna’s Son) the cured leper worshipped the Sun God for cure on the river mouth of Chandrabhaga, the river dried. It is reduced to a dry bed or a narrow trickle. It has been an ideal place for religious activity. Naturally the place, away from human vegetation. Ever swept by sweet breeze and washed by untiding waves is best suited for offerings and also divine romance.
Kuruma
KURUMA (13km from Surya Inn) Kuruma, a small village in puri, is located at a distance of 8 kilometers to the south-east of the sun temple of Konark. Kuruma is alternatively spelled as Kurum. The place is famous for the ancient Buddhist site. This site was built between 9th – 10th centuries A.D. It is situated on the left side of the Konarka–Kakatapur road and can be approached by a road branching from the BaliDokan chowk and is about 2 kilometer from the chowk. The exact geographical location of this village is LONGITUDE 860 07’ 24” E and LATITUDE 190 53’ 62” N. Scholars are of opinion that this was one of the sites containing Buddhist stupas described by Hiuen T’sang.
Ramachandi Temple
RAMACHANDI TEMPLE AND BEACH (9km from Surya Inn) Ramachandi Temple, is on a beautiful spot on the banks of the Kusabhadra River where it flows into the Bay of Bengal. It is only 5 km away from Konark in the Puri District of Orissa. Goddess Ramachandi, the deity of Konark is thought by some to be the presiding deity of this temple, while others thought it to be the temple of Mayadevi, wife of Surya (Sun God)
